Filing and Forms

“Filing” is the process of giving the Clerk of the Court an official document to enter into a case’s files or records. Often, you’ll use a form to do so.

Filing Options

If you're an attorney or court reporter

You must file documents electronically using ACMS.

If you're representing yourself

You can file documents:

  • Electronically through ACMS

  • Electronically through the court's online submission system

  • By U.S. mail

  • By dropping them off at the Browning Courthouse in San Francisco

Motions

If you want to ask the court to do something in your case, you need to file a motion. A motion is a written request of the court.
